Download Quicktime Player For Mac High Sierra: How to Convert and Edit Videos with Ease

Sometimes movie files cannot be played by QuickTime without additional software (even though QuickTime can open them). These files typically contain data that was created using a codec, i.e. a compressor that QuickTime player does not support by default. You might be able to obtain software from other developers that allows QuickTime to play these files. However, you should be careful to make sure that these files do not contain any virus or malware that might affect your Mac before you attempt to download them to your computer.

After you check compatibility, go the following steps to upgrade to High Sierra/Mojave/Catalina/Big Sur/12 Monterey: make a backup of your Mac > make sure you have a reliable Internet connection > download macOS High Sierra or higher version > begin installation > allow installation to complete. Gopro Hero 4k captures excellent 4K, 8K, and 360 recordings. However, sometimes users are not able to play high-quality videos on Mac. There can be many reasons for this, from incompatible media player to even video corruption. In any case, the GoPro video playback issue on Mac can be fixed.

QuickTime is a discontinued[1] extensible multimedia framework created by Apple, which supports playing, streaming, encoding, and transcoding a variety of digital media formats.[2][3] The term QuickTime also refers to the QuickTime Player front-end media player application,[2] which is built-into macOS, and was available for download on Windows until 2016.[4]

Check its official format list and read it carefully again. And you'll find that most QuickTime player versions (macOS or Windows versions) work with MP4 file encoded by a part of MPEG codecs, including MPEG-4 Part 2 (generic MPEG-4), MPEG-4 Part 10 (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC). MPEG-H Part 2 (H265) encoded MP4 files can be played in QuickTime only when you upgrade macOS to High Sierra or higher OS. Wherefore, when your MP4 file is rejected by QuickTime player, the possible reasons are:

Thanks for the response. I will try those links. I thought I downloaded the Avid Codecs as I have in the past and installed but no luck when I installed. They worke great on Mavericks with Avid 7 but on high sierra with composer ultimate all sorts of problems. Yes I do use VLC and quicktime player for years. It opens reluctantly in quicktime7 but I think I am missing an audio component as the sound doesn't play. This is all weird as things worked great on MC 7 and Mavericks. Maybe I can download Final Cut X on this system and it will come with all the needed codecs ?

Aria Maestosa looks a bit dodgy, couldn't open any of the midi files I downloaded... A better option is probably to install Quicktime 7, which supports MIDI, and still runs in Yosemite, check out -quicktime-player-7-in-mac-os-x/

Note: Under the help of UniConverter for Mac, you can play WMV in QuickTime successfully in 1 minute. For Windows users, please download the Windows version and do steps in the same way. If you want to try other ways, please read on, but this solution is highly recommended. By the way, if you want to get more free WMV players, please check this link.

DIVX is a desktop media player as well as a video converter. It is also known for its ability to compress lengthy video segments into smaller sizes with high video quality. It has a wonderful playback experience, with this player, you can play videos in several formats on your Mac such as WMV, AVI, MP4 and MKV.

A: The solution for playing on MacBook Pro is the same as that on Mac because MacBook Pro is running Mac OS X. That is to say, you can download a WMV player like VLC or convert WMV to MOV so you can play WMV on Mac, MacBook Pro, iPhone, iPad, iPod, Apple TV, etc.

If you don't want to convert AVI file to a QuickTime format, nor download the earlier version of QuickTime 7, another solution for native AVI playback on Mac is to use something like VLC media player.

KMPlayer is another popular app. As a free media player, it comes with built-in codecs and offers wide format support, including MP4, AVI, MOV, TS, 3GP, MPEG, FLV, 3G2, MP3, WEBM, WMV, RM, OGM, and more. The app lets you capture video content. With the 64x version, you can download content from YouTube and other sources. KMPlayer also has tablet and smartphone versions for Android and iOS.
